Grâce à leurs relations dans la société anglophone de Québec et grâce à leurs voyages annuels en Angleterre et en Europe, Adèle et Mary Stuart se tiennent au fait des différentes modes britanniques. Pour elles, ces liens avec l'étranger favorisent grandement le maintien d'une identité étroitement liée à la mère patrie. Qu'il s'agisse de cuisine, de décoration ou d'occupations, à la maison Henry-Stuart, on n'est jamais très loin de l'Angleterre et des différentes régions de son Empire.

April 17
Left terminus in London at nine.
Left in Portugese plane for Lisbon about 10:30. Pleasant trip but could not see much as we flew high through mist. Picked up ticket, passed customs - No trouble at all - Took off for Porto at 3, again through mist. Arrived about 4:15.
April 18
Porto.
Sat in garden resting. (...) After tea went down to promenade above (?) the ocean, very lovely. Had drinks at small pub.
April 20
To mass at 11 (...) then to a cocktail party (...) Very pleasant (...) - Marvellous viens (?) - The house furnished with portugese furniture with the exception of the chapelle wich is Italian and quite interesting. Walks after a sleep. Tea. Dinner at 8:30.
April 22
In morning went up the valley to see an old cistercian monastery.
April 30
Hotel Borges.
Left hotel at 9 to Villa Palmetta to pick up Sir Francis Rose - Had great trouble finding him - (...) Lovely day after eavy rain during night. Had lunch at Alcabasa - Trinidade Restaurant - Very good food. Saw cathedral again.
May 1
Lisbon - London.
Left Lisbon for London after wasting a couple of hours at airport.
May 15th
7 Park Place.
Did some shopping for presents. Went to see a collection of drawings at the (?) Square galleries. (...) Came home for a rest at 4:30. Back to Burlington Arcade to get (?) - 2lbs of chocolate - Seems very much but are taking (?) as presents. To a concert at Astral (?) Hall, certainly the last word in modern building. Very good music, Malcom Sargent conducting. Walked home via Waterloo Bridge.
