Instruction included stripping and cleaning weapons, loading and aiming, firing at stationary and moving or appearing targets, and responding to weapon stoppages. Practical exercises involved simulated combat situations, stalking exercises, firing while wearing dark glasses, the use of cover and throwing live grenades. The syllabus also introduced rifle-launched grenades and the stripping and cleaning of Japanese rifles and light machine guns.
