Cover of a Special Operations Executive (SOE) archival file, SOE History 55, titled “Special Operations Australia – Inter-Allied Services and Services Reconnaissance Departments, 1942–1945.” Compiled in 1945–1946, the file documents the history and organization of Australia’s clandestine military operations during the Second World War, including the development of the Services Reconnaissance Department (SRD). These records provide important context for understanding the relationship between British SOE operations and Australia’s special operations organization, to which some Chinese Canadian servicemen were attached. The file includes information about operational groups, personnel, planning and missions in Borneo and other parts of Southeast Asia. Its contents are particularly valuable for researchers tracing the service of Chinese Canadians whose military assignments involved both British and Australian organizations. The cover bears printed archival labels and handwritten filing references.
