Page 2 of a Special Operations Executive (SOE) training document outlining the demolition syllabus for Force 136 personnel during the Second World War. The syllabus lists 43 training topics combining lectures, practical exercises and examinations. Instruction included the preparation and use of explosive charges, detonating fuses, incendiaries, limpet mines and booby traps. Trainees learned techniques for sabotaging railways, bridges, ships, industrial structures and communications infrastructure. Practical exercises included simulated railway derailments, night operations, visits to railway yards and examinations. Some instruction was tailored to particular operational assignments, including railway sabotage for parties operating in Malaya and specialized instruction for party leaders. The syllabus illustrates the extensive technical knowledge and practical skills taught to personnel preparing for clandestine operations in Japanese-occupied territory.
