Appendix A, titled “Force 136 Organisation in Malaya – 6 August 1945,” from a Special Operations Executive (SOE) wartime report. The table records 281 personnel assigned across 12 operations, including PIRATE, CARPENTER, TIDEWAY, GALVANIC, FUNNEL and SERGEANT. Personnel are classified by military role, including officers, wireless operators, medical staff, Chinese and Malay interpreters, instructors, agents and Gurkhas. Of particular significance to Chinese Canadian military history, six personnel are specifically identified as Canadian-born Chinese interpreters: one assigned to TIDEWAY, three to GALVANIC and two to SERGEANT. Operation CARPENTER lists 24 personnel, including four Chinese interpreters and instructors and three Chinese wireless operators, but none in the Canadian-born Chinese interpreter category. The table provides a snapshot of Force 136’s organization on 6 August 1945, rather than a complete accounting of all Chinese Canadians who served.
