A mini-performance by two students of the Starlight Chinese Opera, inside the installation Scent of Thunderbolts for the 2024 Toronto Biennial of Art. They perform “Fragrant Sacrifice”《香夭》, the finale of The Flower Princess, one of Cantonese opera’s most celebrated works. In this final scene, the Princess and her groom, in wedding attire, affirm their love and loyalty to the fallen Ming dynasty before facing death together. (2:23 minutes)
